What is a star bag?
A star bag is a tote cut in the outline of a five-point star rather than a rectangle. The shape is the whole design: there is no hardware, no flap and no logo, so the silhouette does the work a print or a monogram would do on a conventional bag. Ours is worn on the shoulder, with twin straps joined into a single loop.
Is a star shaped bag actually practical?
More than it looks. The points are dead space, but the middle of a five-point star is a wide, shallow pocket — the same proportions as a flat tote — and the body is unstructured, so it gives around what you put in it. What it is not is secure: the top is open, with no zip or clasp.
Leather or suede — which star bag should I choose?
Leather is the hard-wearing one: smooth, matte, wipes clean with a dry cloth and burnishes at the points over time. Suede is the softer, richer-looking one: the nap catches light unevenly so the flat star reads with depth, but it marks in rain and wants a suede brush rather than water.
How do you wear a star bag?
Over one shoulder, flat against the body, two points up and the lower points falling past the hip. Because the bag is a graphic shape in a saturated colour, it works hardest against plain clothes — the photography above pairs it with black and indigo for exactly that reason.
